The Central Bank’s outreach programme goes well beyond compliance with international standards and norms. Over the years, we have developed a rich programme of activities and initiatives that are intended to celebrate the achievements of notable leaders of Trinidad and Tobago, observe major events in our country’s cultural calendar, engage the public and educate and support young people in their pursuit of excellence.
In our priority area of finance, we are helping build a strong financial eco-system through two major initiatives: the annual De La Rue scholarship to students pursuing post-graduate studies in economics and the National Financial Literary Programme (NFLP) which teaches our citizens, and gives them the tools, to make solid financial decisions. In September 2014, NFLP was transformed into a new financial inclusion training agency, the Financial Inclusion Development Agency, which promotes "Grassroots financial stability through financial education".
Our flagship event, the Eric Williams Memorial Lecture has been joined in 2014 by the Rudranath Capildeo Legacy Lecture, as two of our activities that commemorate the life and work of these two important Trinidad and Tobago intellectuals and leaders. Among the Central Bank’s outreach facilities and events are the Museum, Auditorium, our Art Collection and Vacation Internship Programme, as well shows for major cultural festivities, including Emancipation and Indian Arrival Day, which are free to the public.
In the Community
The Bank and its staff support two main charities – our home grown “We Care” charity and the United Way of Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT).
