The Central Bank Money Museum

The Central Bank Money Museum was formally launched on December 3, 2004. Prior to this, the Bank had a small numismatic collection set up in 1986 which contained a display of coins and notes from practically every country in the world. At that time, given the predominance of notes and coins in the financial system, the objective of the collection was to provide the public with a view of the different currencies that existed. Despite the popularity of this collection with visitors to the Central Bank, the collection did not explicitly convey the role that money and the Central Bank played in the workings of the global and domestic financial systems.

The establishment of the Money Museum is intended to add to the educational resources of the country by providing an alternative learning experience in which students from the primary, secondary and tertiary levels as well as citizens from the wider community can learn about the evolution of money and the role of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
